How to enter your Saju birthday: Gregorian, lunar and leap months
Enter your actual birth date, not the date you celebrate your birthday this year. Match the calendar setting to the date you know. For a lunar date, check the birth year and whether it was an ordinary or leap month. Once converted to Gregorian, select Gregorian in the app.

Should I enter a Gregorian or lunar birthday?
Match the calendar option to the date you have. Enter a Gregorian birth date as Gregorian. Use lunar input only if the service supports the Korean lunar calendar. If it accepts Gregorian dates only, convert first.
These are two calendar descriptions of the same birth date, not two different people or destinies. With the same time and calculation rules, a correct conversion should refer to the same moment. If family recollections and official documents differ, find evidence of the actual birth date rather than assuming either is automatically correct.
Can I use this year's lunar birthday as my birth date?
Convert using the year you were born. The Gregorian date of this year's celebration may differ from the Gregorian date in your birth year. Do not attach this year's converted month and day to your birth year.
For example, if your family says you were born on lunar month 8, day 15, enter the birth year together with that lunar month and day in the converter. Finding this year's anniversary is a separate task.
How do I check a lunar leap month?
Check whether the recorded month was ordinary or intercalary. In a leap-month year, a month with the same number can occur twice. The month and day alone may not identify one date.
Ask family specifically about the leap month and compare contemporary records with the conversion. KASI provides separate ordinary and leap-month options. If you cannot confirm the setting, keep the uncertainty visible and compare candidates instead of picking one at random.
Which birthday input mistakes are easiest to miss?
Check the calendar label before pressing calculate. The table separates what you know, what to verify and the mistake to avoid. Use the Korean lunar calendar rather than assuming another country's lunar calendar is identical.
| Known information | Check before entering | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Gregorian birth date | Gregorian setting; year, month and day | Selecting lunar and converting again |
| Lunar birth date | Birth year; ordinary or leap month | Using this year's anniversary |
| Already converted Gregorian date | Gregorian input setting | Selecting lunar after conversion |
| Family and documents disagree | Evidence of the actual birth date | Choosing the reading you prefer |
If I don't know my birth time, can I estimate the date too?
Treat date and time uncertainty separately. Use the confirmed date and select unknown time if necessary. Inventing noon or 9 a.m. makes the chart look as if the hour were known.
For births near 11 p.m. or midnight, check the service's day-boundary rule. A detailed-looking result does not remove uncertainty in the original information.
What should I write down before entering the date?
Record the source as well as the date. Keep: birth year ____; remembered date ____; Gregorian/lunar ____; ordinary/leap month ____; time or unknown ____; supporting record ____; converted Gregorian birth date ____.
You can try the web manseryeok before installing the app. Organize the inputs first and read any interpretation within the limits of the information you actually know.

FAQ
Will converting lunar to Gregorian change my Saju?
A correct conversion refers to the same birth moment. Check the calendar, leap-month setting, time and calculation rules.
What if I don't know whether it was a leap month?
Check the birth year and records, and ask family about the leap month. Compare possible dates without presenting an unconfirmed setting as certain.
Should I select lunar after converting to Gregorian?
No. If the date is already Gregorian, select Gregorian. Selecting lunar again can convert the date twice.
