What determines 2027's fortune by zodiac animal?

It depends on how your zodiac animal relates to Mi (未, Sheep), the Earthly Branch of 2027, the Jeongmi year. Among the twelve branches there are set relationship names such as Three Harmony, Six Harmony, clash, Punishment, Break, Harm and Wonjin, and these are determined not by personality but by how many places apart the two sit when the twelve characters are arranged in a circle. So the backbone of fortune by zodiac animal should be the same wherever you read it.

The 2027 zodiac animal changes at Ipchun (February 4, 10:46 a.m.). Anyone born between January 1 and 10:46 a.m. on February 4 goes by the previous year's animal. For example, someone born in January 1991 is a Horse, not a Sheep. I've explained this boundary in detail in the Ipchun story.

How do the twelve animals relate to 2027's Sheep (未)?

Just read across your own animal's row. Harmony months are months in a Six Harmony or Three Harmony with your animal; shifting months are months that clash with it. Months begin on the solar-term entry date, and everything was calculated with Mutal Unnie's Saju engine.

In a nutshell: Rabbit and Pig harmonize through Three Harmony, and Horse through Six Harmony. Ox (clash), Dog (Punishment · Break) and Rat (Wonjin) are in positions of big movement. For Sheep it's their own year, and the remaining five animals are in positions the year doesn't strongly affect. The meaning of each relationship name is explained in the zodiac compatibility table.

What kind of year is 2027 for each zodiac animal?

Here are the twelve animals in order. The labels next to birth years are Heavenly Stem relationships, explained separately below.

Rat — Ja (子)

For Rat, 2027's Mi (未) forms a Wonjin (resentment pairing) and Harm relationship. Of the twelve animals, Ox is the one with the most movement in 2027. It sits directly opposite Mi (未) in a clash, compounded by a Punishment. Why is the same animal read differently depending on birth year?

Your zodiac animal is the lower character (Earthly Branch) of your birth year. If you also look at the upper character (Heavenly Stem), the same animal splits five ways. 2027's Heavenly Stem, Jeong (丁), combines with Im (壬) and clashes with Gye (癸). So even among Rats, 2027 has a different tone for someone born in 1972 (Imja) than for someone born in 1984 (Gapja).

For people born in 1967, a Jeongmi year, both the Heavenly Stem and the Earthly Branch match 2027's. The sixty Gapja cycle has come full circle, making it the year that returns to the stem-branch pair of their birth year — in other words, their hwangap (60th birthday). How do I read the 2027 Samjae animals?

In 2027, Samjae applies to Pig, Rabbit and Sheep, and it's leaving Samjae, the last of the three years that began in 2025. The traditional reading is that it's the year it passes. Interestingly, Pig and Rabbit are also the animals that harmonize best with 2027 through Three Harmony in the table above. How far should I trust fortune by zodiac animal?

As far as getting a sense of direction. The zodiac animal is one of the eight Saju characters, so you can't sum up the year of millions of people with the same animal in one sentence. It works just right if you use it to mark harmony months and shifting months on your calendar and adjust the size of your plans.

There's one thing to do today. In the first table above, find your animal's shifting month and mark it on your calendar. During those couple of months, don't pile up big things like moves or contracts — leave yourself some room.
