Ipchun 2027

Thursday, February 4, 2027,
10:46 a.m.

Korea Standard Time (135°E meridian) · From this moment, the Saju year changes to 2027's stem-branch pair

A solar term is the moment the sun passes a certain point in the sky, so it's defined by a time, not a date. 2027 starts with Sohan on January 5 (23:09) and ends with Dongji on December 22 (11:42). All times below are Korea Standard Time.

The times in this table are minute-level Korea Standard Time (KST) values from the Mutal Unnie engine. When we compared them on October 3, 2026 with 48 solar terms in the public calendar data of the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), every date matched, and the minute-level figures differed by 0–1 minute. When checking a boundary time, compare the calculation and notation basis as well.

Why does Saju look at the exact time of a solar term?

Because the Saju month pillar (月柱) changes at the jeol (節) boundary. The reference point isn't the 1st of the calendar month but the moment of the solar term.

Picture two people born on February 4, 2027. One born before 10:46 is still in the Ox month of 2026; one born after is in the Tiger month of 2027. Born on the same day, yet all four characters of their year and month pillars are different. There's more on this in why Ipchun is the Saju new year.

Only the 12 jeol change the month. Not all 24 solar terms are boundaries. Ipchun, Gyeongchip, Cheongmyeong, Ipha, Mangjong, Soseo, Ipchu, Baengno, Hallo, Ipdong, Daeseol and Sohan — these twelve are jeol (節); the other twelve are gi (氣) and don't change the month. In the table and cards above, the colored ones are jeol.

Are there solar terms in 2027 whose date differs depending on the source?

Yes: Sanggang and Ipdong. In Korean time they fall just past midnight, so the date rolls over to the next day.

Solar termsKorean time (135°E)China time (120°E)
Sanggang (霜降, Frost's Descent)October 24, 2027, 00:322027 10/23 23:32
Ipdong (立冬, Start of Winter)November 8, 2027, 00:382027 11/7 23:38

Manseryeok tools that use China Standard Time as is show Sanggang on October 23 and Ipdong on November 7. For the Saju of someone born in Korea, Korean time is the reference. Why this difference arises is explained in Why manseryeok apps give different results.

Which month does my chart fall in?

Enter your birth date and time, and you'll see right away which solar-term period it falls in. If it falls right on a solar-term boundary, it'll tell you that too.

FAQ

When is Ipchun in 2027?

Ipchun in 2027 falls on Thursday, February 4, 2027 at 10:46 a.m. This is in Korea Standard Time, and in Saju the year's stem-branch pair changes to 2027's from this moment. If you were born before this time, you use 2026's stem-branch pair.

When is Dongji (the winter solstice) in 2027?

Dongji in 2027 falls on Wednesday, December 22, 2027 at 11:42 a.m. It's the day with the longest night of the year, and in Saju it sits in the middle of the Rat month (Jawol 子月).

Why do I need to know the exact time of a solar term?

Because the Saju month pillar (月柱) changes at the solar-term entry time. For example, even if you were born on February 4, 2027, you're in the Ox month before 10:46 and the Tiger month after it — so both characters of the month pillar change completely. If you only know the date and not the time, you can get it wrong at this boundary.

How many of the 24 solar terms does Saju use?

Twelve. The 24 solar terms alternate between 12 jeol (節) and 12 gi (氣), and in Saju only the 12 jeol mark the change of month. The jeol of 2027 are Sohan (1/5), Ipchun (2/4), Gyeongchip (3/6), Cheongmyeong (4/5), Ipha (5/6), Mangjong (6/6), Soseo (7/7), Ipchu (8/8), Baengno (9/8), Hallo (10/8), Ipdong (11/8) and Daeseol (12/7).
