Suneung day Saju
— November 19, 2026, a Jeong-yu day: an exam-day check by Day Master

· Mutal Unnie editorial team

Quick answer

November 19, 2026 (Thu), the day of the 2027 Suneung — Korea's college entrance exam, the CSAT — is a Jeong-yu (丁酉) day in the Gihae month of the Byeong-o year on the Saju calendar. You can read the day's tone by seeing which Ten Gods the day's Jeong (丁) and the Sin (辛) inside Yu (酉) are for your Day Master. But the iljin doesn't change your ability. Use the reading only as questions for checking your arrival time, what you pack and your first-period routine.

What kind of day is the 2026 Suneung in Korean Saju?

November 19, 2026 is a Jeong-yu (丁酉) day in the Gihae (己亥) month of the Byeong-o (丙午) year. That's the day of the Suneung, Korea's college entrance exam (the CSAT). In Saju, the year changes at Ipchun and the month at each solar-term entry, so the Gihae month begins at Ipdong, 6:52 p.m. on November 7 (KST). In a Jeong-yu day, Jeong (丁) is fire like a candle flame, and Yu (酉) is refined metal.

What does the Jeong-yu exam day mean for each Day Master?

You only need to read the row for your own Day Master. We read Jeong (丁) as the flow that shows on the surface that day, and Sin (辛), the main hidden stem of Yu (酉), as the flow you feel in your body. Your Day Master is the first character of your day pillar in the free Manseryeok calculator.

Your Day MasterJeong · SinWhat to look after on exam day
Gap Wood 甲Hurting Officer · Direct OfficerThe power to get out what you know arrives together with rules. Double-check the rules for marking your answer sheet.
Eul Wood 乙Eating God · Indirect OfficerA day when well-practiced methods carry you. If tension rises, circle back to the easy questions first.
Byeong Fire 丙Rob Wealth · Direct WealthA day when it's easy to get swept up in the mood around you. Skip comparing answers during breaks.
Jeong Fire 丁Companion · Indirect WealthThe day's Heavenly Stem is the same character as yours, so your own judgment is sharp. Set your time-allocation plan in advance.
Mu Earth 戊Direct Resource · Hurting OfficerA day when what you've studied backs you up. Focus on marking the key points rather than reading long passages word by word.
Gi Earth 己Indirect Resource · Eating GodA tone that's strong with unfamiliar question types. Don't panic at a question you've never seen; mark it and move on.
Gyeong Metal 庚Direct Officer · Rob WealthRules and catching mistakes are the theme. Check your exam number and elective-subject marks twice.
Sin Metal 辛Indirect Officer · CompanionThe pressure may feel heavy. Settle on a breathing routine for before the first period.
Im Water 壬Direct Wealth · Direct ResourceThrough the Jeong–Im combination, the day's stem binds to your Day Master. A tone of calmly reviewing to the very end.
Gye Water 癸Indirect Wealth · Indirect ResourceThe Jeong–Gye clash may make your mind waver. If you have time left over, decide your review order in advance.

If the Ten Gods are new to you, read the 10 Ten Gods alongside this. The table is a reference drawn from traditional interpretation; it doesn't predict scores or admission.

Does Munchang Gwiin, the literary star, mean better exam luck?

It's a sinsal traditionally linked with study and writing — it doesn't decide your score. Munchang Gwiin (文昌貴人, the “literary star”) sits on a set Earthly Branch for each Day Master. The Yu (酉) of a Jeong-yu day is the Munchang position for Jeong Fire (丁) and Gi Earth (己) Day Masters, so for those two, the exam day's iljin is read as overlapping with Munchang.

How to read it
If Munchang overlaps, it's enough to read the day as “a good day to bring out what you've prepared”; if it doesn't, as “a day to stick to your usual routine.” There's no need to raise your hopes or worry over a single sinsal.

Should I be careful on Suneung day if my day branch clashes with Yu (酉)?

A clash means “big movement,” so use it as a signal to plan your route in advance. If your day branch is Myo (卯), it clashes with Yu (酉); if it's Jin (辰), the two form a Six Harmony; if it's Sa (巳) or Chuk (丑), a Three Harmony.

Your day branchRelation to Yu (酉)Exam-day check
Myo (卯)ClashA tone where travel variables grow. The day before, check the route to your test site and a backup way to get there.
Jin (辰)Six HarmonyA tone where helping hands join in. Agree on an arrival time with the family member going with you.
Sa (巳) · Chuk (丑)Three HarmonyA tone where the flow comes together. Keeping to your usual routine is best.
Yu (酉)Same characterA tone where the day's energy doubles up. Schedule rest time to ease excess tension.

How to find the days that clash with you each month is in Clash days.

What should you do the day before and the morning of a big exam?

Sleep, your route and the first period come before any Saju reading. Slotting the one check you picked from the reading into the order below is plenty.

  1. Check your test site at the pre-exam gatheringOn November 18, see the location, the entrance and the travel time for yourself.
  2. Pack everything in one goThe night before, gather your admission ticket, ID, analog watch and lunch in one place.
  3. Review past mistakes, not new materialThe day before, skim only the question types you often got wrong instead of solving new problems.
  4. Work back from the 8:10 a.m. seating timeDecide when to leave home and set two alarms.
  5. Set a rule for breaksDon't replay the period that just ended; prepare only for the next one.

I've written more on this routine in The day before and the day of an exam.

What do Suneung gifts like yeot and chapssal-tteok mean?

They're a Korean cheering custom that carries the wish to “stick” — that is, to get into a university. In Korean, “to stick” is also the everyday way of saying you passed an exam, so sticky yeot (a chewy Korean taffy) and chapssal-tteok (glutinous rice cakes) are given for that reason. A tissue is given because the verb for unrolling one also means “to solve” a problem, and a fork because the verb for spearing something also means “to pick” an answer. These are Korean wordplays that don't carry over into English — the meaning is simply “you've got this.”

More than gifts that wish for luck, what really helps an exam-taker is care that fits their schedule. In the Mutal Unnie app, you can add Suneung day as an event for free and see the D-day and a one-line rhythm for that day; the evening-before briefing and day-of guide are unlocked with Full Care (35 Bok). You can look after the whole family's events together, as in How to read family Saju.

FAQ

What is the iljin of Suneung day 2026?

November 19, 2026 (Thu), when the 2027 CSAT (Suneung) is held, is a Jeong-yu (丁酉) day in the Gihae month of the Byeong-o year. The Gihae month begins at Ipdong, 6:52 p.m. on November 7, 2026 (KST).

What if my exam day's iljin doesn't suit me?

The iljin doesn't change your ability or your score. Pick just one thing to check from the reading and turn it into an action you control, like your arrival time, what you pack or your first-period routine.

Can you read a student's Saju without knowing their birth time?

Yes. The Day Master and day branch are set by the birth date, so you can read the tables above without the time. If you were born around 11 p.m., though, your day pillar can differ depending on the day-boundary rule.

Why do Koreans give yeot as a Suneung gift?

It's a Korean custom: just as yeot and chapssal-tteok stick, the gift cheers the student on to “stick” to (get into) a university. Tissues (to “solve” problems well) and forks (to “pick” the right answers) are also given.
