Dohwasal and Hongyeomsal
— Korea's Peach Blossom stars, how to check your chart, and the 2027 Peach Blossom months
Dohwasal (桃花殺, the Peach Blossom star) marks the kind of charm that turns heads. You find it from the Three Harmony group of your year branch or day branch: In·O·Sul point to Myo, Sa·Yu·Chuk to O, Sin·Ja·Jin to Yu, and Hae·Myo·Mi to Ja. Hongyeomsal (紅艶殺) is found from your Day Master instead, and a few cells, such as Eul (乙), are written differently from book to book. Neither one decides whether you'll cheat or find love; they're traditional names for the way you draw people in.

What is Dohwasal, and why is everyone in Korea talking about it?
Dohwa (桃花) means peach blossom, and in Saju it names the position of charm, popularity and self-expression that draws people toward you. It's one of the Twelve Sinsal (symbolic stars). In the Mutal Unnie Saju engine's Twelve Sinsal table, the same position is shown under its other name, Yeonsal (年殺).
If you've read Chinese BaZi, you'll know it as the Peach Blossom star or "peach blossom luck." In Korea, “you've got dohwasal” used to be a slightly worried remark. Now it's closer to a selling point in a self-introduction. In April 2026, Tinder said mentions of “saju” in Korean users' profiles had grown about fourfold year on year, and “gunghap” (compatibility), “destiny” and “star sign” about threefold. A survey cited in a Korean trend column found 68.0% of people in their 20s and 67.5% in their 30s were interested in Saju or tarot.

How do I check whether my Saju has Dohwasal?
Find the Three Harmony group your year branch or day branch belongs to, then see whether that group's Peach Blossom branch appears among the other branches of your birth chart. Get your Eight Characters first with the free manseryeok calculator.
| Base branch (year or day) | Zodiac animals | Peach Blossom branch |
|---|---|---|
| In (寅) · O (午) · Sul (戌) | Tiger · Horse · Dog | Myo (卯) — Rabbit |
| Sa (巳) · Yu (酉) · Chuk (丑) | Snake · Rooster · Ox | O (午) — Horse |
| Sin (申) · Ja (子) · Jin (辰) | Monkey · Rat · Dragon | Yu (酉) — Rooster |
| Hae (亥) · Myo (卯) · Mi (未) | Pig · Rabbit · Sheep | Ja (子) — Rat |
- Pick your base branchWrite down the branch of your birth year (year branch) and of your birth day (day branch). Your zodiac animal changes at Ipchun (立春, around February 4), not on January 1 or Lunar New Year, so double-check if you were born in January or early February.
- Find the groupFind the row in the table above that contains your base branch.
- Look in your chartIf that row's Peach Blossom branch sits in your month, day or hour branch (when using the year branch), or in your year, month or hour branch (when using the day branch), you “have Dohwa.”
For example, someone born in summer 1994 is a Dog (Sul), so their Peach Blossom branch is Myo (卯). If their birth day or hour branch is Myo, they have Dohwa by the year-branch method. Some readers count any of Ja, O, Myo or Yu in the chart as Dohwa, so two readers can give the same chart a different count. How it fits with the other names is in the Twelve Sinsal guide.
How is Hongyeomsal different from Dohwasal?
Hongyeomsal isn't based on relationships between branches; you find it from your Day Master, the Heavenly Stem of your birth day. Traditional readings describe Dohwa as outward popularity and sociability, and Hongyeom as a quieter allure that shows in your mood and expressions.
| Day Master | Hongyeom branch |
|---|---|
| Gap (甲) | O (午) |
| Eul (乙) | Sin (申) — some tables give O (午) |
| Byeong (丙) | In (寅) |
| Jeong (丁) | Mi (未) |
| Mu (戊) | Jin (辰) |
| Gi (己) | Jin (辰) |
| Gyeong (庚) | Sul (戌) |
| Sin (辛) | Yu (酉) |
| Im (壬) | Ja (子) |
| Gye (癸) | Sin (申) |
Depending on how the old verse is split when read, the Eul (乙) cell becomes either Sin (申) or O (午). If two sites or apps disagree, check which table each one uses first. To find your Day Master, see all 60 day pillars.
Does having lots of Dohwasal mean you'll cheat?
No. The number of Peach Blossom stars alone can't tell you how faithful or serious someone is in love. The idea that “lots of Dohwa means an affair” is closer to a leftover of an old outlook that treated charm, and women's charm in particular, as something to be wary of.
Modern readings tend to link Dohwa to work with people, to expressive work like the stage, presenting or making content, and to first impressions. Love and marriage are read from your Day Master, day branch and Ten Gods together, not from one sinsal. See why the day branch is read as the seat of the people closest to you in Day pillar and Day Master, and how the year changes things in reading your 2027 love fortune.
When does Peach Blossom arrive from winter 2026 through 2027?
When your Peach Blossom branch comes around as the branch of a year or month, it's read as Peach Blossom “arriving.” Saju months change at the exact entry time of a solar term, not on the 1st. The times below are Korea Standard Time (KST) values from the Mutal Unnie engine.
| Period (KST) | Arriving branch | If your base branch is in |
|---|---|---|
| Until 2027-02-04 10:46 (Byeong-o year) | O (午) year | Sa·Yu·Chuk (Snake · Rooster · Ox) |
| 2026-12-07 11:52 – 2027-01-05 23:09 | Ja (子) month | Hae·Myo·Mi (Pig · Rabbit · Sheep) |
| 2027-03-06 04:39 – 04-05 09:17 | Myo (卯) month | In·O·Sul (Tiger · Horse · Dog) |
| 2027-06-06 06:25 – 07-07 16:37 | O (午) month | Sa·Yu·Chuk (Snake · Rooster · Ox) |
| 2027-09-08 05:28 – 10-08 21:17 | Yu (酉) month | Sin·Ja·Jin (Monkey · Rat · Dragon) |
| 2027-12-07 17:37 – 2028-01-06 04:54 | Ja (子) month | Hae·Myo·Mi (Pig · Rabbit · Sheep) |
The Mi (未) of 2027, the Jeongmi year, isn't a Peach Blossom branch, so no animal has a whole Peach Blossom year. Instead, the four months above are read as times when you meet more people or stand out more easily. Treat that as “more chances to meet people,” not a promise of romance. If you live outside Korea, convert these KST times to your own time zone. All entry times are in 2027 solar terms.
Should I put my Saju or Dohwasal on a dating profile?
It's a fun conversation starter, but don't post your full date and time of birth, and don't use Saju to screen people. Your birthday and birth time are personal data that can also turn up in identity-check questions.
- Share just your Day Master or day pillar“I'm a Byeong-o day pillar” or “apparently I've got Dohwa” is plenty. Save the full birth data for when you know each other better.
- Don't judge the other personPicking people by whether they have Dohwa puts a stereotype ahead of the conversation.
- Keep compatibility playfulChat about how your two Day Masters relate. See Day Master compatibility.
- Don't pressIf they don't know their birth time or would rather not say, leave it there.

FAQ
Is Dohwasal read from the year branch or the day branch?
Both are used. The year-branch method has the longer tradition, and today many readers also use the day branch, which stands for you yourself. If the two give different results, note both and check which method a reading is based on.
If I don't have Dohwasal, does that mean I'm not attractive?
No. Dohwa is just the name for a noticeable kind of charm. A chart without it can still draw people in other ways, such as trustworthiness or steadiness, depending on the Day Master and the Ten Gods.
Why do Hongyeomsal tables differ from site to site?
Depending on how the old verse is split, the Hongyeom branch for an Eul (乙) Day Master is given as either Sin (申) or O (午). When comparing results, first check which table is being used.
Which zodiac animals get Peach Blossom in 2027?
The Mi (未) of 2027 isn't a Peach Blossom branch, so no animal has a whole Peach Blossom year. Instead, the Myo month is read as the Peach Blossom month for Tiger, Horse and Dog; the O month for Snake, Rooster and Ox; the Yu month for Monkey, Rat and Dragon; and the Ja month for Pig, Rabbit and Sheep. That's the year-branch method; check the day-branch result separately.
