In short

In Saju, the rule of thumb is calculation is free, long interpretation is paid. Manseryeok, iljin, Five Elements distribution, lunar–Gregorian conversion, age and Son-eomneun-nal (days free of wandering spirits) all have a single fixed answer, so normally you should be able to see them without signing up.

How free is free Saju?

There's one rule: calculation is free, long interpretation is paid. Once you know where that line is, you can predict where payment will come in.

Calculation has a single fixed answer. Run Manseryeok, iljin, lunar–Gregorian conversion, age or Son-eomneun-nal by the rules and anyone gets the same value. Interpretation, on the other hand, means a person crafting sentences, so it costs money.

Why should calculation be free?

Because it has a correct answer. The day pillar of someone born on May 3, 1991 is fixed. Charging for it is like charging money to show someone a calendar.

What's more, if the calculation is hidden, there's no way to check whether it's right. With a place that sells readings without showing the Four Pillars chart table, nobody would know if the calculation were wrong. In fact there are several points where results diverge between apps — we've laid out six of them in Why Manseryeok apps give different results.

When choosing an app, first check whether it shows the Four Pillars chart table. A place that openly shows the Eight Characters and Five Elements distribution is confident in its calculations. A place that only says “results after payment” can't be cross-checked.

What can I see for free without signing up?

Anything that counts as calculation works right on the web. Everything below opens with no sign-up and no payment.

It said free — so where does payment come in?

There are only a few patterns. Knowing them in advance means no surprises.

  1. Blocking right before the result — it shows your Eight Characters, then the payment screen pops up at “Your destiny is…”. This is the most common.
  2. Narrowing the free part to a single day — only today's is free; tomorrow and this week are paid.
  3. Auto-renewing subscriptions — the first week is free, then payment is taken automatically. Check in advance when you need to cancel.
  4. Frightening you, then selling a solution — it starts with “There's bad luck on you” or “You need to resolve it now” and leads to talismans (bujeok), a gut (shamanic ritual) or a special reading. We see this as a problem of approach, not price.

Patterns 1–3 are normal ways of doing business. The problem is number 4. How to tell them apart is covered in detail in How Saju apps charge.

How is free Saju different from a paid consultation?

The biggest difference is whether it reflects your situation. A free calculation pulls out your Eight Characters accurately, but it doesn't know whether you're thinking about changing jobs or about to move.

A consultation with a human reader listens to that context and narrows things down. But it costs more, and answers vary depending on who's reading. It's not that one is better; they serve different purposes. We think it's sensible to check the calculation and general direction for free, and look for a person only for really big decisions.

A comparison of apps by type is in How to choose a Saju app.

FAQ

How much can I see with free Saju?

The rule of thumb is calculation is free, long interpretation is paid. Manseryeok, iljin, Five Elements distribution, lunar–Gregorian conversion, age and Son-eomneun-nal are usually free; payment comes in with in-depth readings, compatibility and yearly reports.

Is there anywhere I can read my Saju without signing up?

Yes. In Mutal Unnie's tools you can check Manseryeok, iljin, Son-eomneun-nal, lunar–Gregorian conversion, age, Daeun and Samjae without signing up. Your input is processed only within your browser.

What should I watch out for on free Saju sites?

Watch out for sites that ask for your phone number or address. That information isn't needed to calculate Saju. And a setup that frightens you and then sells a solution is a problem of approach, not price.

Why is an app that doesn't show the Four Pillars chart table a problem?

Because you lose any way to check whether it's right. Manseryeok results genuinely diverge on the Ipchun boundary and how the Ja hour is handled. A place that discloses your Eight Characters can be cross-checked, which means it's that confident.
